This policy explains how Climate Marketplace collects, uses and protects personal data when you use climate-marketplace.com. Climate Marketplace is a curated platform that connects climate tech startups with investors.
1. Who we are
Climate Marketplace is a brand of Investor Marketplace Ltd, 14 St. Margarets Street, Bradford-on-Avon, BA15 1DA, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
For any privacy question or request, email hello@climate-marketplace.com.
2. The data we collect
When you create an account (founders, investors and other members): your name, email address, username, password (stored encrypted), company name, country, the type of member you are, and how you found us (for example a link you followed).
Founders – your startup listing: the information you add to your listing, such as your company description, sector, funding round and amount, traction, team members’ names, roles and backgrounds, contact email, website, logo, images and pitch deck link.
Founders – pitch deck autofill (optional): if you upload your pitch deck to draft your listing, we process the PDF as described in section 5.
Investors – your investment preferences: investor type, sectors, stages, ticket sizes, geographies and instruments you invest in, which we use to match you with startups.
Messages and requests: messages you send to startups through the platform, upgrade requests, and emails you send us.
Activity on the platform: when you log in and how you use the platform, for example listings and pitch decks investors view, resources members use, and steps founders complete when creating a listing. We use this to run and improve the platform and to measure what is working.
Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, and cookies (see section 8).
3. How we use your data, and our legal basis
- To provide the platform – creating your account, publishing your listing, matching startups with investors, and passing on messages and introductions. Legal basis: contract.
- To match startups and investors – including our weekly match digest, which emails investors a short list of startups that fit their stated investment preferences. Legal basis: contract and legitimate interests.
- To send service emails – such as welcome emails, reminders to complete your listing, and updates about your listing or requests. Legal basis: contract and legitimate interests.
- To send our newsletters and investor briefing – where you have signed up or where permitted for existing members; you can unsubscribe at any time. Legal basis: consent or legitimate interests.
- To provide paid services – such as Featured Placement and Active Campaign, if you request them. Legal basis: contract.
- To keep the platform secure and prevent spam and fraud. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- To understand and improve the platform. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- To meet legal and accounting obligations. Legal basis: legal obligation.
4. Who can see your information
Startup listings are reviewed by us before they go live. Once published, listing details are visible to logged-in investors and members of the platform; some summary details (such as name, sector and teaser) may appear in search results, our match digest and investor briefing. You control what you include in your listing.
When an investor contacts a startup through the platform, the founder receives the investor’s name, company, email and message, and we may facilitate the introduction.
Investor preferences are used for matching and are not shown publicly.
We do not sell your personal data.
5. Pitch deck autofill
If you choose to upload your pitch deck to draft your listing, the PDF is sent securely to our AI provider, Anthropic, which processes it on our behalf to extract information for your listing. We do not store the uploaded file on our website; it is deleted from our server as soon as it has been processed. The drafted text is saved to your listing so you can review and edit it before submitting. Anthropic may process data in the United States. Uploading a deck is optional – you can complete your listing manually instead.
6. Service providers we use
We share personal data only with trusted providers who process it on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:
- GoDaddy – website hosting.
- LeadConnector (via our FEA account) – customer relationship management, email automation and meeting booking.
- Anthropic – AI processing of pitch decks for listing autofill (section 5).
- Titan – email.
- Sucuri – website security monitoring.
- Google – reCAPTCHA (spam protection on sign-up)
- Substack – if you sign up to The Green Techpreneur newsletter through our site.
We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights.
7. International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK–US data bridge where the provider is certified.
8. Cookies
We only use cookies that are necessary for the site to work. These include cookies that keep you logged in to your account, remember how you arrived at the site so we can record your sign-up source, and protect the site from spam and attacks (for example a short security session cookie set by our firewall). These cookies do not track you across other websites, and we do not use advertising or analytics cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site, such as logging in, may then not work.
9. How long we keep your data
We keep your account and listing data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we need to keep it for legal, accounting or dispute-resolution reasons (for example records relating to paid services or completion fees, which we keep for up to 6 years). Uploaded pitch decks used for autofill are not stored (section 5).
10. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these rights, email hello@climate-marketplace.com. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), though we would appreciate the chance to resolve it with you first.
11. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), encrypted password storage, security monitoring, login protection and two-factor authentication for administrator accounts.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
